A Washington & Jefferson College student was struck by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon in Washington on Beau Street near the intersection with Lincoln Street.

According to a 911 supervisor, the person was struck at 4:12 p.m. and taken by ambulance to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh.

Washington police are investigating the incident, but could not be reached Tuesday for comment.

The college’s President John Knapp was present at the scene about 5 p.m. The college later issued a statement about the incident.

“Shortly after 4 p.m., a student was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in the marked mid-walk on Beau Street by Alexander Hall,” the statement read. “We are continuing to receive updates about the student’s condition. Counseling services are available to students on campus.”
