Fredericktown father arrested on drug, child endangerment charges

A Fredericktown father was arrested Wednesday night by Centerville police on drug and child endangerment charges after officers were called to his home for a possible drug overdose.
Christopher Mort, 32, of 162 Fredericktown Terrace, was alert and breathing when officers arrived at his home about 11:35 p.m. He refused medical treatment.
Police spoke with Mort inside a second-floor bathroom, where officers could see a needle and a spoon with what appeared to have heroin residue on it. The items were on the top of a child’s training toilet and accessible to children. Police also found three stamp bags of heroin inside a trash can.
When police asked Mort if he had been using heroin, he responded he had and then passed out. Two children, ages 10 and 4, were in the home. Police said the 4-year-old was in the adjacent room. Mort had been caring for the children at the time.
Mort was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis on two counts of endangering the welfare of children and five counts each of possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia.
He was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. He is scheduled for a May 11 preliminary hearing before Kanalis.
