Washington man faces new charges

Haskey Jr.
A Washington man already facing numerous theft charges for allegedly stealing from area stores was arraigned Wednesday for allegedly burglarizing a Canton Township grocery store last month.
Kenneth Haskey Jr., 31, was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge David Mark on charges of burglary, criminal trespass, theft and criminal mischief for allegedly breaking into Interstate Foodland, 1920 W. Chestnut St., in the early morning hours of April 12.
When troopers arrived, they saw broken glass from two doors, a large stone and footprints. The stone was on the floor just inside the front doors of the store and the footprints were on a rolled-up mat near where cartons of cigarettes are stored. The footprints showed a tread pattern with “NIKE.” A man was also seen on surveillance video wearing a dark hooded shirt. Four cartons of cigarettes were stolen from the store.
Haskey was interviewed at Washington County jail, where he was taken after his earlier arrests. He wore a pair of Nike shoes and reportedly gave a statement, admitting to wearing the shoes during the burglary.
Washington police filed a retail charge against Haskey Monday at the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger. He is accused of stealing two cartons of cigarettes from Kwik Fill, 705 E. Maiden St., on March 27.
Haskey is currently in jail on $225,000 bond after his arraignment last month on eight different cases of retail theft filed against him after he allegedly stole items including jewelry and more cigarettes from businesses in Canton and South Strabane Township. He also was charged by state police with unauthorized use of a vehicle and theft for allegedly taking his mother’s vehicle without permission and stealing money.
Mark set an additional $25,000 bond on the new charges. Haskey is scheduled for a May 16 preliminary hearing before Mark.
