Firefighters from several departments were called Thursday to a plant on Wilson Road in North Strabane Township when a dust collector caught fire, sending flames shooting into the sky.

The fire was reported just before 7 p.m. at International Paper. North Strabane fire Capt. Glenn Eger said the collector caught fire, and the flames spread onto a portion of the roof.

Eger said there was not much damage, although some of the roof melted. He said the contents of the collector caught fire. While the fire was quickly knocked down, Eger said crews were on the scene for about two hours.

Assisting at the scene were firefighters from Canonsburg, Peters Township and Washington. Also at the scene were township police and Canonsburg Ambulance.
