A motorcyclist was killed in a crash early Saturday on Interstate 70 in Bentleyville.

Charles John Chester, 39, of Charleroi, was trying to merge from the on-ramp into the eastbound lanes at 12:20 a.m. State police said he hit a concrete barrier next to the median with the front-left side of his 1999 Yamaha V-Star bike.

Washington County Coroner Tim Warco’s office said Chester was ejected into the westbound lanes, where he was struck by a tractor-trailer.

Warco didn’t identify the driver of the tractor-trailer. Troopers investigating the crash didn’t mention the second vehicle in a release they issued later in the day.

Assisting state police at the scene were Bentleyville and Fallowfield volunteer fire departments and Mon Valley EMS.
