North Franklin hires group to investigate police department
North Franklin Township officials confirmed Wednesday the township has hired an “outside, independent group” to conduct an investigation into the police department.
Township solicitor Gary Sweat said the hiring took place during an emergency executive session last week. He declined any further comment on the nature of the investigation.
Township Supervisor Bob Sabot confirmed that three officers within the department have been suspended with pay, “pending the outcome of the investigation.”
Sabot referred all questions to the township’s labor attorney, Phillip Binotto, who did not return calls for comment Wednesday.
“The township is not commenting, pending the investigation,” Sabot said.
No mention of the investigation, the hiring or last week’s emergency executive session was made during the supervisors’ regular meeting Tuesday night. They met again in executive session Tuesday to discuss personnel and litigation, but no action was taken after the session.
