The swimming pool at Ryerson Station State Park will not be opened for the Memorial Day weekend.

The opening of the pool will be delayed this year because the park has been unable to find enough lifeguards to staff the facility, park manager Alan C. Johnson said.

Finding enough lifeguards has been a frequent problem at Ryerson, at times requiring the park to operate the pool only several days week or to end the swimming season early.

The park is now seeking applicants, Johnson said. Anyone interested in becoming a lifeguard must possess the proper certifications and complete an application on the new NEOGOV website at: https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/pabureau/jobs/2040419/lifeguard.

Updates on the status of the pool can be found at www.dcnr.pa.gov/stateparks/findapark/ryersonstation. For more information on the park, go to www.dcnr.pa.gov.
