Motorcyclist in Cumberland Twp. crash in serious condition
A motorcyclist involved in a crash in Cumberland Township Monday has been upgraded from critical condition to serious condition.
George Wolfe III, 28, of Republic, was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown in critical condition after colliding with a car just before 5 p.m. Monday on Route 21 near Michaels Auto, just outside Carmichaels. He was in and out of consciousness at the accident scene, according to firefighters. As of Tuesday morning, hospital officials reported Wolfe was in serious condition.
The other driver involved in the crash, Beth Ann Stoneking, 35, of Waynesburg, was not seriously injured and told EMS personnel she would seek medical attention independently. One of two juveniles in her car was transported to a local hospital as a precaution, and the other planned to seek medical attention with a parent, according to Cumberland Township police.
Witnesses told Cumberland Township police the motorcycle and car were both headed east on Route 21 and Wolfe was passing several vehicles at a high speed just before the crash. Stoneking was attempting to turn left onto Ceylon Road. Wolfe reportedly passed several vehicles that were behind Stoneking, waiting for her to turn left, and hit the car on the rear driver’s side as it tried to complete the turn, according to police. The vehicle had moderate damage.
Witnesses told police Wolfe flew 20 to 30 feet from the point of impact. Two witnesses had dashcam footage of the crash officers intend to use as the investigation continues.
