A Fayette County man who pleaded guilty to burglarizing the 9-to-9 convenience store in Dilliner in September was sentenced May 18 by Greene County Judge Lou Dayich to 10 to 23 months in jail.

Briar David Jones, 23, of 458 Fords Hill Road, Grindstone, broke into the store the night of Sept. 8 and stole five cartons of cigarettes and a bottle of Mountain Dew.

State police said they had been watching Jones, a suspect in a rash of burglaries, and observed him breaking into the store that night. They arrested him after he left the store and returned to his truck, which was parked down the road.

Jones pleaded guilty Feb. 20 to burglary, possessing instruments of crime, theft and receiving stolen property.

As part of his sentence, Jones was given credit for time served, 222 days. He also received 15 months of probation consecutive to the jail sentence, was fined $100 and ordered to pay $401 in restitution to the store.
