Community pitching in for 2000 Turkeys campaign
Each year, the 2000 Turkeys campaign helps the Greater Washington County Food Bank provide Thanksgiving dinners for about 7,500 Washington County families.
Suzanne Urcho, donor relations coordinator for the food bank, said the organization, and the families it serves, are thankful to the Washington County residents, businesses and organizations who generously donate to the grassroots campaign.
“We serve the hungry all year. This time of year, however, the need greatly increases,” said Urcho. “With 2000 Turkeys, it enables us to provide Thanksgiving dinners to many families throughout Washington County.”
A donation of $15 provides a Thanksgiving meal for a family of four, Urcho said.
2000 Turkeys, the largest single fundraiser for the food bank, is a community effort that relies solely on generosity of the people who want to help their less fortunate neighbors.
Other than covering the cost of the post office box rental, every penny donated to 2000 Turkeys goes toward making sure local families enjoy a holiday meal.
To date, the campaign has raised $19,450, and Shepherd’s Financial LLC. has pledged to match $12,500.
As Thanksgiving approaches, the campaign has raised a total of $31,950, nearly a third of its goal to raise $100,000. We thank you, Washington County, for helping those in need enjoy a happy Thanksgiving. Your generosity is remarkable.
With less than three weeks remaining until Thanksgiving, we still have work to do. Please consider writing a check and dropping it in the mail. Make checks payable to 2000 Turkeys and mail to 2000 Turkeys, P.O. Box 2000, Washington, PA 15301.
