Crucible man charged with attempted homicide in stabbing at vape shop
WAYNESBURG – A 19-year-old Crucible man was charged with attempted homicide after he intervened in a fight between two men and stabbed one of the men in the back Sunday at Dubtown Vapes Shop in Franklin Township, state police said.
Marcus Michael Booze of 67 Second St. was charged by state police with attempted homicide and aggravated assault and placed in Greene County jail on $150,000 bond.
The victim, Franklin D. Russel II, no age or address given, was stabbed in the lower back and suffered a collapsed lung and additional undetermined internal injuries, state police.
Russell was taken to WHS-Greene hospital near Waynesburg and later transferred to West Virginia University Medical Center in Morgantown, W.Va., where he was reported in fair condition Monday.
Troopers were called to the vape shop at 125 Wade St. for a stabbing at 8:55 p.m. and learned that Russell had been stabbed in the back while he was involved in a fight with Louis Hunyady, no age or address given, according to court documents.
“As the altercation intensified, Hunyady’s acquaintance retrieved a knife and stabbed Russell in the lower left back area, which caused the fight to end,” state police Trooper Joseph Popielarcheck wrote in the criminal complaint.
Hunyady and the acquaintance, later identified as Booze, fled the scene.
Hunyady later told police Russell began to strike and punch him when he entered the vape store and as he and Russell fought, Booze stabbed Russell in the back. Hunyady said once in the car, Booze told him he “popped him,” apparently referring to Russell.
Charges were filed with District Judge David Balint. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Nov. 15.
