Burgettstown High School to reopen Tuesday
Burgettstown Area Middle-High School will reopen for classes Tuesday after being closed all of last week and Monday due to ongoing air quality issues.
Superintendent James Walsh, in a call to parents, said the restoration company performing cleaning work had cleared the building for occupancy. Any additional work on the roof or ventilation units can be done without disruption to classes, the message said.
Classes at both the high school and the elementary school were canceled Sept. 24 after complaints from staff and students led to air-quality testing that found mold in several areas of the high school. The buildings were cleaned and classes resumed Sept. 25 in the elementary school but additional work was needed at the middle-high school, which closed all of last week.
Walsh said he’s unsure what the unexpected week off will mean for make-up days, but he’s in communication with the state Department of Education.
