Area school districts awarded safety grants

Three Washington County school districts and two Greene County school districts have been awarded grants to purchase security-related equipment totaling over $100,000 for student and staff safety.

Trinity Area School District and Washington School District received $20,000.

North Strabane Township Police Department, on behalf of Canon-McMillan, was awarded $30,000. Trinity and Canon-McMillan’s grants are specifically for the training and compensation of school resource or police officers and last for a two-year term.

The Safe School Program grant, which Washington was awarded, is to create programs aimed at reducing violent incidents.

Central Greene School District was granted $24,933, and Jefferson-Morgan received $11,947. These funds can be used to purchase metal detectors, lighting, surveillance cameras, emergency communication devices, locks and additional related equipment.
