Cumberland man arrested after allegedly pointing gun at wife

A Cumberland Township man faces aggravated assault charges after he allegedly pointed a gun at his wife’s face Monday night.
Cumberland Township police charged Michael John Mikalik, 65, of 333 Nemacolin Way, Carmichaels, with two counts of aggravated assault, as well as terroristic threats, reckless endangerment and harassment.
Officers responded to the couple’s residence about 8:30 p.m. Monday after Anna Marie Mikalik called police and said her husband was intoxicated and pointed a handgun at her. She had since left the home and he still had the gun, police said.
Three officers arrived at the home and found Michael on the porch. He was handcuffed and told police he did not do anything wrong while being led to a police cruiser. He said the two were arguing and when he went outside to sit on the porch, Anna was gone.
As he was taken to jail, however, he told officers she better not be in their home when he returns, according to court documents.
After he was arrested, Anna approached officers from a neighbor’s home, visibly upset, according to court documents.
“He put a gun to my head,” she told the officers.
She said that she was on the porch while the two were arguing. There was a window just a couple of feet behind her head, and Michael was standing at the window with a black handgun pointed at her face, according to court documents.
“She stated he had pointed the gun toward her before, so she knew for a fact it was a firearm,” the court document states.
Anna thought the firearm must be in the home because he did not leave the house after the incident. Anna helped officers locate a safe where the firearm is normally stored. Officers brought the safe to Michael as he sat in the cruiser. Although he became “very upset,” he provided police with the code to open the safe. However, there was not a gun inside.
He then began to yell profanities and requested a lawyer, police said.
“She better not be in that house when I get back,” he said, according to police.
He was arraigned Tuesday morning by District Judge Lee Watson and is being held at the Greene County jail on $50,000 bond to await his preliminary hearing scheduled for Oct. 17.
