Washington traffic stop ends in arrests
A traffic stop Saturday by Washington police ended with the arrest of two Charleroi residents, one on weapons violations and the other on a juvenile probation violation.
D’Andre Graffinread, 21, and Natalie Robertson, 19, both of 609 Meadow Ave., were taken into custody after police stopped the vehicle driven by Graffinread at the intersection of Catfish and Gibson avenues for equipment and traffic violations.
Graffinread reportedly told police he did not have a valid driver’s license. Robertson, who was a front-seat passenger, and a backseat passenger also did not have driver’s licenses.
Police said they could smell marijuana in the vehicle and asked the occupants to get out. Found inside the vehicle were a Ruger .380-caliber handgun, two rounds of ammunition and a small amount of marijuana, police said.
Graffinread reportedly told police the gun was his and he had found it near Catfish Creek. He is not permitted to possess a firearm because of prior offenses. Police said the serial number on the gun was partially scratched off.
Police determined Robertson was wanted on a juvenile probation violation. She was taken to Jefferson County (Ohio) Juvenile Detention Center. She also is facing drug charges after police said they found a small plastic bag containing suspected crack and heroin hidden in the crotch of her pants.
Graffinread was arraigned before District Judge Mark Wilson on charges of persons not to possess a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, having a gun with an altered serial number, possession of marijuana and traffic violations. He was placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond. He is scheduled for an Oct. 31 preliminary hearing before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
The owner of the vehicle, William Wilson, 30, of 115 Meadow Ave., Charleroi, will be charged by city police with permitting a violation for allegedly allowing a driver to operate the vehicle without a valid license.
The other passenger in the vehicle was released.
