Monongahela man killed in Carroll crash
A Monongahela man was killed in a crash reported about 6 a.m. Monday in Carroll Township, but township police are not sure if he died in the initial wreck or when his vehicle was hit later by another vehicle.
Washington County Coroner Tim Warco identified the victim as 36-year-old Martin Edward Moser Jr.
Police Chief Paul Brand said that Moser was driving east on Shannon Road near the intersection with Locust Grove Lane when his vehicle went off the side of the road, up an embankment and rolled over.
Brand said another driver discovered Moser’s overturned sport utility vehicle and stopped. Moser’s vehicle was then hit by a vehicle going west on Shannon driven by Heather Horner, 31, of Carmichaels.
Moser was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The cause of the crashes are under investigation,” Brand said. “We are not sure if he died in the first crash or the second.”
“It would have been difficult to see the vehicle,” Brand said, adding that it was black and the headlights had been knocked out.
Horner was taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital, where she was treated and released, Brand said.
Warco indicated the cause and manner of death are pending the outcome of an autopsy.
Assisting at the scene were firefighters from Carroll Township and Tri-Community Ambulance.
