Three people injured in separate assaults in Washington
Washington police are investigating two separate assaults that left three people injured Tuesday, one reportedly in critical condition.
Robert Lee Washington, 56, of North Franklin Township, was injured when he was assaulted along Catfish Creek near Hillside Avenue and Ewing Street about 9 p.m. Josh Irizarry, 26, and Nicka Speer, 25, were reportedly injured in an incident on Grove Avenue about 4 p.m.
When police arrived in the area of the creek, they found Washington bleeding from his face. He was unable to talk or open his eyes. He was taken to Washington Hospital and then flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment. Police said he was in critical condition.
A witness gave police a name of a man who reportedly assaulted Washington. The investigation is continuing.
In the other alleged assault, police were called to the city’s West End after Irizzary was found near McCarrell Avenue and Fayette Street with facial injuries. Police said he was also bleeding from the ear. He was taken to Washington Hospital.
Police were able to locate Irizarry’s wallet in his pocket and found an address for Speer. They went to the home on Wayne Street in Canton Township to speak with Speer, who also lives there. When officers arrived, she was unconscious and being loaded into an ambulance. She also was taken to Washington Hospital.
Her brother told police he and his girlfriend were walking to the bus stop to pick up their children when he found Speer unconscious and laying partially in a doorway of a home in the 400 block of Grove. He took her to her Wayne Street home and called for an ambulance. Her brother told police he last saw Irizzary walking away from the house where Speer was found unconscious.
Police went to that residence but no one was home and there was no visible evidence of blood. Police also went to the hospital, but were not able to speak to the two to determine what happened.
The investigation is continuing.
