Bishop Zubik to hold service of repentance for sexual assault victims
Pittsburgh Bishop David Zubik will lead a Holy Hour today for repentance to express sorrow for the sexual abuse harm to children by Roman Catholic priests.
The service in St. Paul Cathedral in Oakland follows a Pennsylvania grand jury report that identified 99 priests as child predators over many decades in the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh.
The report that was made public in mid-August listed 301 predator priests in six dioceses in Pennsylvania and more that 1,000 child victims, although the grand jury believed the real numbers were higher.
Today’s service is not a Mass, the diocese said. It will begin at 3 p.m.
