Washington police investigate separate robberies
Washington police investigated separate robberies in the city, including one Friday where a man threatened a clerk with a knife.
A black man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and wielding a knife stole $461 from a clerk at Cigarette City, 1064 Jefferson Ave., about 8:45 p.m., police said.
The suspect fled on foot in the direction of the 1300 block of Jefferson.
The other robbery took place a few hours later in the city’s West End section.
Police said Michael Pearson was in Circle K convenience store, 710 W. Chestnut St., shortly after midnight Saturday when a black man asked him for money, saying he was “short on his purchase,” police said.
Pearson gave the man two dollars on his way out of the business.
Police said the same man, accompanied by two white men, followed Pearson before 1 a.m. to Bassett Avenue, where Pearson said the three men assaulted him and robbed him of his wallet, which contained $500.
It was not immediately known Saturday if the two robberies were related.
