A Carmichaels man died Tuesday morning in a fiery head-on crash on Route 21 in Jefferson Township near the Greene County Airport, state police said.

Andrew William Tedeschi was driving east in his SUV shortly before noon when he crossed the center line and crashed into a westbound pickup truck that was hauling a trailer, police said.

Tedeschi, 28, died at the scene, police said. The driver of the pickup truck, Keith Lynn Blake, suffered major injuries and had to be pulled from the wreckage by several bystanders before his truck caught fire and was engulfed in flames, police said.

Blake, 65, of Carmichaels, was flown by medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., where his condition was not immediately known.

State police said both drivers were wearing their seat belts.

Route 21 was closed while state police investigated and Jefferson volunteer firefighters removed the wreckage.
