The gas had previously been turned off, Friend said, and the electricity to the house was turned off at the scene.
North Strabane, South Strabane and Washington firefighters also responded to the 3:30 p.m. call, as well as EMS workers and Chartiers Township police. No injuries were reported during the fire, Friend said.
Friend said the fire started in the basement and traveled through the walls to the second floor. He said it wasn’t a total loss.
“We had to pull down a lot of ceilings and floors, so it’s all tore up in there,” Friend said.
The state police fire marshal was called to investigate the cause of the fire.
