Republic woman who allegedly tried to have husband killed free on bond
The Republic woman accused of trying to hire a hitman to kill her husband is free on $100,000 bond.
Fayette County Judge Linda Cordaro set bond for Roxanne Guty, 51, following a hearing last week on the request.
A district judge denied bond for Guty, who is charged with trying to hire a man to kill her husband, Arthur Guty Jr.
Police alleged she asked Norman Pennington, 61, to kill her husband. State police alleged she gave him money to buy a gun, and offered to split the proceeds of a $50,000 insurance policy with Pennington after he killed her husband.
Her attorney, Ryan Harrison James, argued Roxanne Guty is not a flight risk and should be granted a non-monetary bond and placed on house arrest with electronic monitoring. If that wasn’t an option, James asked Cordaro to set a low bond for his client.
Assistant District Attorney Rob Harper said while prosecutors oppose electronic monitoring and a non-monetary bond, he would agree to a bond between $100,000 and $150,000.
Cordaro ordered the $100,000 bond could either be paid by cash, by posting real estate in Fayette County with a net value of at least equal to $100,000, or a combination of the two.
On March 27, the day after bond was set, Guty posted bail through a bail bondsman.
Cordaro’s order also stated that Guty should not contact her estranged husband and is not permitted to travel or leave the state without prior permission from the court.
Her bond is also conditioned upon her compliance with requirements by the Fayette County Adult Probation Office including home confinement with electronic monitoring.
“The court considers the defendant to be a person who could flee the jurisdiction, and that the foregoing conditions and the above bond amount is the minimum necessary to protect the public and to reasonably assure the defendant’s appearance at future proceedings,” Cordaro wrote.
