Three drivers were injured Wednesday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash on Route 21 in Center Township that involved a state Department of Transportation pickup truck.

State police said Aden Ashurst II, 27, Morgantown, W.Va., was driving west in his sport-utility vehicle when he crossed the center line near Tower Road and crashed into an eastbound commercial truck shortly after 3 p.m.

His SUV then careened into a PennDOT pickup truck driven by Timothy W. Ackley, 45, of Waynesburg, police said. Ackley was taken to WHS-Greene hospital near Waynesburg with minor injuries. The driver of the commercial truck, Stephen C. Wright, 37, of Pittsburgh, also suffered a minor injury, but declined treatment.

Ashurst suffered a serious injury, police said, and was flown by medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va. His condition was not known Thursday.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by EMS Southwest medics and volunteer firefighters from Center Township and Richhill Township.
