Drug charges land man in prison for 6-12 years
After pleading guilty Tuesday in Washington County Court to two separate cases of felony drug charges, Preston Earl Klages, 34, of Canton Township, was sentenced to 6 to 12 years in prison.
Klages admitted selling heroin to a confidential informant in May 2018 during an ongoing investigation by the Washington County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force.
Task force detectives witnessed the sale, then obtained a search warrant for the residence where Klages lived.
When executing the search warrant, Klages and a woman were taken into custody. Found in the home near Klages was a backpack that contained 574 stamp bags of heroin mixed with fentanyl, later confirmed by testing at the state police crime laboratory, along with $565.
Klages entered guilty pleas before Judge Valarie Costanzo to felony drug delivery of heroin for the controlled buy with the confidential informant and to a felony drug charge of possession with intent to deliver fentanyl seized during the search of the residence.
The judge ordered Klages to serve a minimum of 60 months in a state correctional facility.
District Attorney Gene Vittone thanked Sheriff Samuel Romano and personnel from his office for their participation.
