Driver killed in wrong-way crash on I-79
A 25-year-old woman was killed early Saturday when she was driving the wrong way on Interstate 79 in the area of the Canonsburg exit and collided head-on with another vehicle.
Amanda Sue Towns of Morgantown, W.Va., died at the scene of the 3:50 a.m. accident. Washington County Coroner Tim Warco said she was wearing a seat belt.
State police said the accident occurred as Towns was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of the interstate.
The 28-year-old woman who was driving the other vehicle was injured and taken to an area hospital. Her condition was not immediately known.
State police were assisted at the scene by Ambulance and Chair Service, Canonsburg Ambulance and the North Strabane and Peters Township fire departments.
