One of the vehicles involved in a crash Monday on Route 88 in Carroll Township in which three people were injured, two critically.

A New Eagle woman and her passenger died Monday from injuries suffered earlier in the day in a head-on vehicle collision on Route 88 in Carroll Township.

The driver, Julie Nicholas, 51, died at 2:35 p.m. in Mon Valley Hospital, more than seven hours after the crash near Elizabeth Road, the Washington County coroner’s office said.

The passenger in her car, William Criswell, 59, of Monongahela, was pronounced dead at 4:06 p.m. in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, where he was flown following the collision, the county medical examiner’s office said.

Nicholas was traveling south on the two-lane road when an oncoming sport-utility vehicle driven by Michael Bloom, 38, of Fayette City, apparently crossed the center line and collided with her car, Carroll police said. Bloom’s injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

The cause and manner of both deaths remained under investigation Tuesday.
