GASTONVILLE – Union Township supervisors have taken steps to focus on repairing a string of roads that have been neglected for years.

The supervisors on Wednesday hired Ken Puglisi of KDL Enterprises of Union as a consultant on road projects at a cost of $45 an hour, township solicitor Gary Sweat said.

“We’ve got a lot of issues with roads,” Sweat said.

He said the supervisors have also asked the township engineer to draw up a priority report, listing the roads that need to be repaired.

He also said EQT will be taking care of some road repairs as the company advances Marcellus shale natural gas drilling operations in the township.

A number of local roads, including Coal Bluff, were closed last year due to repeated flooding.

Sweat said some of the road condition issues date to previous township boards.
