Water main breaks in Canonsburg
Canonsburg residents had their water turned off for hours Friday morning, following a water main break on Julia Drive.
Fire chief Tim Solobay said they were dispatched to the scene about 4:45 a.m.
“The water was shooting pretty high in the air,” he said. “It took a little while for them to get everything shut down.”
Solobay said crews from his department were there about three hours, waiting for Pennsylvania American Water to arrive and fix the problem.
Gary Lobaugh, spokesperson for the water company, said the 8-inch line was 70 years old. He said about 50 homes were without water for most of the morning, but service was restored by 11:30 a.m.
About five homes had some water damage in their basements from the break, and several yards were rutted, Solobay said.
“Fortunately, most of it diverted to other storm drains and alleyways,” he said.
