Crews recovered a vehicle from the Monongahela River Monday, two days after it drifted into the water.
On Saturday, scuba divers from East Beth and North Strabane rescue teams attempted to use a tow truck and cable to pull the 2005 Nissan sedan to shore, but the current was too dangerous and bad weather moved in.
In addition, the cable snapped as personnel tried to tow the car in.
The owner of the car, Devin Parasolick of Monongahela, told police his car started to drift toward the river after he parked it about 3:45 p.m. Saturday at a boat ramp at Larry “Tubby” Hall Memorial Park. He had exited the car before it rolled into the river and was not injured.
“He tried jumping into it to stop it,” incoming Monongahela police Chief Kevin Harris said Monday.
The car came to rest on the bottom of the river about 100 feet from the riverbank at the park at 435 Howard St., police said.
Crews returned Monday and spent nearly two hours working to get the car out of the water.
