A Fayette County man is behind bars for allegedly assaulting a Chihuahua, his pregnant girlfriend and two police officers.

Kenneth Warren Schultz, 26, of Lincoln Street in Washington Township, is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, cruelty to animals and simple assault in one case and two counts each of aggravated assault and resisting arrest in the second case.

A Washington Township police officer may have suffered a broken wrist, and he and a second officer suffered scrapes and cuts, according to court paperwork. The dog, a 15-week-old female teacup Chihuahua named Marbles, suffered a broken leg, police said. Court paperwork did not list any injuries suffered by Schultz’s girlfriend, Kayla Paul, who is six months pregnant.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Schultz became enraged when Marbles urinated on his porch, where Paul was visiting him with the dog the morning of April 18. He allegedly grabbed the dog by her skin, tossed her in the yard and beat her repeatedly. When Paul told him to stop, he allegedly grabbed her by the face and shoved her to the ground, screaming at her to control the dog, using expletives.

She later noticed the dog was limping. Schultz reportedly told her not to take Marbles to the veterinarian, saying the dog was fine.

Paul took the dog to the veterinarian, who said Marbles suffered a fracture requiring surgery, according to court documents.

Washington Township police arrested Schultz on a warrant that afternoon. He allegedly assaulted Officers Bruce Tooch and Robert Cunningham at the police station.

Schultz was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Nathan A. Henning, who set bail at $100,000 in each case. He remains in Fayette County Prison, unable to post bail.
