County posts electronics recycling schedule
The Washington County Planning Commission has set its electronics recycling schedule for the remainder of the year.
With the exception of Christmas Eve, the new site managed by JVS Environmental at 1 American Way, Ellsworth, will be open from 2 to 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays, May through December.
The dates are: May 14 and 28; June 11 and 25; July 9 and 23; Aug. 13 and 27; Sept. 10 and 24; Oct. 8 and 22; Nov. 12 and 26; and Dec. 10.
There will be no recyclables collected at the site on Tuesday, Dec. 24.
One American Way is behind the Ellsworth post office. Participants will enter the site from Almond Road, past a beer distributorship.
The Ellsworth location replaces monthly recycling collections previously held at Washington County Fairgrounds and Washington Mall.
Accepted will be computer monitors, computer towers and bases, computer mice, keyboards, speakers, notebook computers, printers, most household appliances, including those containing freon gas; fluorescent tubes and compact fluorescent light bulbs.
Televisions will be limited to one per carload per event.
JVS will not accept vacuum cleaners, carpet scrubbers, smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.
Most items will be collected free of charge. Exceptions include: damaged or dismantled televisions, which will be accepted along with a $50 hazardous handling fee.
Four- and 8-foot fluorescent tubes and CFLs will be accepted for a charge of $2 per bulb.
For appliances, there is a freon-removal fee of $20.
For items that carry recycling fees, only cash will be accepted.
Washington County’s electronics collection has served 9,885 residents and has collected more than 843,000 pounds of material through 2018.
