Cecil Township police have issued an arrest warrant for a woman who stole a car in Mt. Lebanon and led Cecil police on a chase Saturday afternoon before crashing into one of their patrol cars.

Detective Mark Marcucci said Cecil police received a call from Mt. Lebanon police about a woman who stole a car from their jurisdiction and was headed to Cecil Township. Marcucci said Mt. Lebanon police had been tracking the woman through her cellphone.

They identified her as Kira Corsello, 31, of Mt. Lebanon. Her family had allegedly requested a warrant for her to be taken to a hospital for a mental health commitment, Marcucci said.

“When she found out, she left the residence on foot,” he said.

She was on Seneca Drive in Mt. Lebanon, when she found the car, parked and running in front of a residence. She allegedly stole the car, which belonged to Scott Elliott, at about 2:45 p.m., Marcucci said.

Cecil police found Corsello traveling north on Route 980, but when they put their lights on, she sped up, Marcucci said. She entered McDonald, running through stop signs and red lights, he said. She went down a dead-end road, North McDonald Street, and turned around in a driveway.

Police used their patrol cars to try to “pin her vehicle in,” Marcucci said, but she drove at them and struck the front bumper of one of their patrol cars. Her vehicle then went over an embankment and got stuck with the back end in the air.

Corsello allegedly was uninjured, and refused to get out of the car. Canonsburg and Mt. Lebanon police then arrived to assist.

“They had to remove her from the vehicle, take her to the ground and handcuff her,” Marcucci said.

She was taken to St. Clair Hospital, he said, but Cecil police also filed an arrest warrant that will be served after she’s released from the hospital charging her with aggravated assault, fleeing a police officer, resisting arrest, receiving stolen property, and five traffic summary violations, Marcucci said.

He said theft charges against Corsello may also be pending in of Mt. Lebanon.
