Magistrate announces he won’t seek fifth term
Canonsburg area District Judge David Mark announced Thursday he will not seek a fifth six-year term for the office he has held for nearly a quarter-century.
Mark, who intends to serve until the end of his current term, which will expire in early January, is turning 60 this year.
“I still want to work as a senior judge, but I want to create some more free time for myself,” he said.
Senior judges fill vacancies and handle cases as assigned.
His father, the late Walter Mark, was a local insurance broker and Canonsburg magistrate.
David Mark chose to announce his retirement so there is sufficient time for potential candidates to organize a campaign.
Tuesday, Feb. 19, is the first day to circulate and file nominating petitions. Candidates for magisterial district judge can file as Democrats, Republicans or both, regardless of their political affiliation.
The district also encompasses Canton Township, Houston Borough and Chartiers Township, including Meadow Lands.
