In an age of technology growth, Washington School District is taking another step forward, beginning next week.

On Monday, the school board will hold its regular board workshop at 6 p.m. to discuss the upcoming 2019-20 budget. For those who would like to know what is happening, but can’t attend, the meeting will be video recorded and put on the district’s website.

The board will hold its voting meeting on Feb. 19. Individuals can watch the workshop meeting on their own time to learn about the upcoming votes set for the Feb. 19 meeting and submit their comments by email or, if possible, attend the voting meeting.

Dr. James Konrad, superintendent, said, “We have had some requests to tape our meetings, and this will enable our district’s families to see what is happening. It is often difficult if parents have varying schedules or if students are involved in sports and evening activities for parents to attend our meetings. Video recording will make a great difference in our board’s communication to our families.”

Konrad said that all families had more communication tools made available this school year through the use of Power School. “Parents can log on to the program and see what their children’s grades are and also what their homework assignments are. We’re seeing that middle and high school students are also using the new system to check their assignments and grades, too.” This is the first year that high school students were given Chromebooks to take home for their use for school assignments. Many students did not have access to computers outside of school until now.
