The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for southwestern Pennsylvania, including Washington, Greene and Westmoreland counties, from 10 p.m. yesterday through late tonight.

In addition, a flood warning has been issued on the Monongahela River due to a drenching Sunday and Monday that followed last week’s rain and snow melt, the National Weather Service said.

The Monongahela is expected to rise less than a foot above the flood stage of 28 feet early Wednesday in Charleroi, a depth that typically results in minor damages, the weather service forecast indicates.

Meteorologist Tom Green said minor flooding was also expected Wednesday in Elizabeth, Allegheny County.

Green said this storm that began with snow Sunday was expected to drop about 2 inches of rain in Washington County, which has rainfall in its forecast every 12 hours through Sunday.

Rain was expected to turn to snow tonight.
