Washington School District likely won’t have tax increase in 2019-20
Washington School Board is set to vote on Feb. 19 on a $28.8 million 2019-20 preliminary budget that does not include a tax increase.
Director of District Operations Rick Mancini said 61 percent of the proposed budget is earmarked for instruction; 28.3 percent is dedicated to support services; 2.7 percent is for non-instruction, including student activities and athletics; and 8.2 percent is for interest and debt.
He noted that over the past nine years, the cost of benefits has increased 62 percent, from about $4.7 million for the 2011-12 school year to an estimated $7.7 million for the 2019-20 school year.
The cost for cyber and charter schools has increased 37 percent.
