CHARLEROI – A boil-water advisory was lifted Saturday in the Charleroi area after the supply was determined to be free of bacteria or other microorganisms.

The Municipal Authority of the Borough of Charleroi said Saturday that all of the mandatory testing has shown the water is safe to drink.

A rupture in a main 16-inch transmission pipeline resulted in the advisory being issued Tuesday. Two other subsequent ruptures on the same pipe resulted in the advisory being lifted about a day later that what had been expected.

A section of the line needs to be replaced soon on an emergency basis, and the authority will be receiving bids in the next few days to replace the damaged section, said Chuck Cardinale, the authority’s general manager. The authority also needs to make repairs to the associated pump station.

The advisory covered North Charleroi, Charleroi, Speers and Monessen.

“We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience,” the authority stated Saturday.

“It is recommended to flush any drinking water fountains and to discard any ice that was made during the advisory as an added precaution” the problem-solved notice stated.
