Lifelong resident Betsy Rohanna McClure announced Wednesday her candidacy for Greene County commissioner and is seeking the Republican nomination in the May 21 primary election.

A school nurse and proven leader in the community, McClure outlined her pro-jobs, pro-education, low tax and “Greene County First” agenda.

McClure said her choice to run is driven by her consistent belief that government should serve the needs and interest of its citizens.

In addition to spending more than 23 years in local schools helping children and families, McClure is a member of the Greene County Chamber of Commerce and Rain Day Committee, serves on the Franklin Township Planning Board, and is chair of the Greene County Friends of the NRA. This experience and active involvement in organizations across the county has provided her with an extensive knowledge of the county and the needs of local residents.

“Over the last five years, I have personally met and listened to thousands of residents all across Greene County,” McClure said. “I’ve heard firsthand and have great respect for their concerns, needs and hopes for a better future. It is their voice I am working to bring to life with my pro-jobs, pro-education, low tax and Greene County First Agenda.”

McClure said she believes the county has an opportunity to further capitalize on its resources and location to bring more high paying jobs to Greene County.

“We must take advantage of our close proximity to gas production sites along with our varied transportation capabilities including interstates, railway and rivers to secure new industry,” she said. “We must capture downstream natural gas jobs. Providing a variety of good paying jobs is essential to maintaining and even growing our tax base which supports schools and infrastructure. As a fulltime Greene County commissioner, I will put in as many hours as it takes to make sure we bring home every advantage for the workers, families and children of our community.”

In addition to jobs, McClure said she will bring a fresh vision to Greene County, offering to work with both parties to deliver results and be a strong voice advocating for education as well as retooling and retraining the workforce in the county. Her goal is to help workers get skilled training to secure better jobs and futures for their families.

McClure earned her nursing degree from Waynesburg College, and a master’s in education from California University of Pennsylvania. She holds a K-12 principal certification and is a certified school nurse in the Trinity School District for more than 15 years. Prior to accepting her current position, Betsy served as a case manager for Albert Gallatin Hospice and Washington Hospital. She also taught college and vocational technical nursing classes.

Betsy and her husband, Keith, are the parents of a son and daughter, and the grandparents of two grandchildren. She is a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association, has served for five years as Greene County State Committee representative, is a member of Veterans of Foreign War Local 4793, the NRA and St. Ann Roman Catholic Church.
