A Chartiers firefighter looks into a house where a fire broke out Tuesday afternoon.

Multiple fire departments responded Tuesday to a small kitchen fire at 59 McConnells Mills Road, in Chartiers Township.

Chartiers Township Assistant Fire Chief Gary Friend said the homeowner was attempting to thaw a frozen pipe under the kitchen sink with a propane torch, when the fire started just before 1 p.m.

Friend said the residents safely exited the home, along with their pets, and no injuries were reported at the scene. He said the residents won’t be displaced, as the house sustained only smoke and water damage.

Assisting at the scene were Chartiers Township police, Canonsburg Ambulance, and firefighters from Mt. Pleasant and Houston.
