Woman jailed after allegedly beating her mother
A North Strabane Township woman was jailed after allegedly beating up her 67-year-old mother Monday afternoon.
Charlotta Howard picked up her daughter, Tara A. Howard, 42, of 150 Walker Road, and her daughter’s boyfriend about 12:15 p.m. Monday and while they were in Charlotta’s car she told her daughter that she was no longer going to give her weekly money, according to the criminal complaint
Tara, from the backseat, allegedly began pulling her mother’s hair while her mother was driving. When the car was parked at Tara’s residence, Tara allegedly stole her mother’s purse and ran into the house, the complaint said.
Charlotta followed her daughter into the house to retrieve her purse, North Strabane police said, but Tara allegedly began punching her in the face and knocked her to the ground. Tara then allegedly struck her mother in the back of the head with a small pot, before “violently pulling out the victim’s hair,” the complaint said.
Police said Tara’s boyfriend pulled Tara off Charlotta and returned her belongings. Charlotta then drove herself to Canonsburg Hospital, where she was treated for a swollen, black eye. The top of her head was also covered in blood, police said.
Tara Howard was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and theft. She was arraigned Monday night by District Judge Robert Redlinger and jailed on $20,000 bond.
