A Charleroi man died in a hospital early Tuesday, less than two weeks after he was the victim of a hit-and-run in Pittsburgh.

The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said Michael May, 55, died shortly after 1:30 a.m.

Pittsburgh police officials said May was walking near PPG Paints Arena Feb. 7 when a vehicle that was moving “at a high rate of speed” plowed into him and then hit another vehicle on Fifth Avenue shortly before 6 p.m. The driver continued without stopping.

Authorities said May had a head injury. He was taken in critical condition to an unspecified hospital.

No charges have been filed.

Chris Togneri, spokesman for the city’s Department of Public Safety, said the police investigation is ongoing.
