Washington School Board approves preliminary budget
Washington School Board this week approved a $28 million preliminary budget for the 2019-20 school year that does not include a tax increase.
If it is approved in its final form in June, the budget will represent a 2.4 percent increase over the budget for the current school year. Rick Mancini, the director of district operations, credited retirement costs that have not increased as much as they have in recent years, and health costs that have decreased by 2 percent.
Also helping the district’s budgeting plans are earned-income and real-estate taxes that have come in above projected levels, and state subsidies that have also been greater than anticipated, Mancini said.
