A Charleroi man is facing charges after allegedly smashing his girlfriend’s head into a wall while she was holding her 3-year-old child on New Year’s Eve.

Charleroi Regional police said William McKinley Jackson, 58, of 620 Fallowfield Ave., allegedly had consumed alcohol before getting into an argument with his girlfriend about 8:30 p.m. Monday at his residence. Police said Jackson became angry because his girlfriend wanted to go to a party without him.

Police said Jackson allegedly punched the walls of his home, knocked over household items and threw a child car seat down a flight of stairs. Police said the woman took her child and attempted to leave the residence, but Jackson allegedly punched her in the face while she was holding the child. Police said Jackson then grabbed the woman by her head and pushed her head into a wall.

Jackson was later located by police at his friend’s house, in the 400 block of Sixth Street, and charged with simple assault and harassment. He was arraigned Tuesday morning by District Judge Joshua Kanalis and was released after posting a $10,000 bond.
