Washington County Commissioners

– Date: Dec. 20

– Action: The board approved the submission of plans for Courthouse Square garage renovation to the City of Washington with fees for zoning, building and electrical permits and miscellaneous items not to exceed $75,000. 

– Alterations to the Ackelson Bridge over Raccoon Creek will cost an additional $16,184, increasing the county’s construction contract with Metzinger Cement Contracting Inc. to $311,352 to be paid with bridge funds from the Act 13 impact fee on unconventional natural gas wells.

The county renewed a $25,000 contract with attorney Frank D. Magone to provide legal services related to the collection of child support payments this year.

Attorney Bob Johnson’s $50 per hour contract to be a hearing officer for the domestic relations department was renewed. 

Attorney Robert Grimm of the Pittsburgh firm Swartz Campbell LLC will continue to provide services to the county for employment- and unemployment-related cases, civil rights matters, cases before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Pennsylvania Human Relations Act. Attorneys’ fees will increase to $155 per hour from $150; associate attorney and paralegal fees will also increase by $5 per hour. 

The board approved Robyn Kennedy’s travel to a conference in Virginia on behalf of the Children and Youth Services agency. Costs will be borne by the Allegheny County Bar Association. 

A poured-in-place rubber surface will be installed at the obstacle course at Mingo Creek park at a cost of $28,880 by Peter Jeffrey and Associates of Indianola, to be paid with the proceeds from oil and natural gas funds.
