Monongahela man arrested for alleged child pornography
Child pornography charges were filed against a Monongahela man following an undercover investigation.
Chris Robert Schibik, 51, was charged with 30 counts related to child pornography before District Judge Mark Wilson Wednesday.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, state police conducted undercover investigations into online sharing of child pornography when on Nov. 10, a trooper was able to locate a computer sharing child pornography on the BitTorrent file sharing network.
Police were able to obtain the IP address assigned to the computer and then found the computer’s internet service provider.
On Nov. 19, police served a subpoena on the service provider for subscriber information, which allegedly led to Schibik’s house.
A search warrant was obtained on Jan. 2 and served the following day, and police said they found 22 video files depicting child pornography on media devices seized from the residence. Schibik told police that he owned and used the devices.
Schibik is lodged in the Washington County Prison with bail set at $25,000.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled at 10 a.m. Jan. 16 before Wilson.
