Tanker truck overturns in Claysville
A tanker truck hauling brine water from a gas well overturned early Monday in Claysville, blocking the intersection of Wayne and Main streets (Route 231 and Route 40) for more than an hour. Joe Lucas, Claysville Volunteer Fire Department assistant chief, said the truck was traveling south on Route 231 down a hill at about 5:15 a.m. when the driver lost control and it overturned at the intersection with Main Street. The truck then rolled into a pickup truck parked on Main Street.
The driver was taken to Washington Hospital for evaluation. A small amount of brine leaked from the tanker and the Washington County Hazardous Materials Team was called to assist with clean-up. The brine was transferred to another tanker. Lucas said the truck may have lost its brakes as it was coming down the hill. State police are investigating, but did not immediately have a report. The truck is owned by McKissick Trucking, Lucas said.
The road reopened to traffic about 7:30 a.m.
