Democrat announces candidacy for Register of Wills
Suzanne Archer of Washington is seeking the Democratic Party nomination as a candidate for register of wills.
Archer, 54, has worked in the register of wills office for the last seven years and she is now deputy under current Register Mary Jo Poknis, who plans to retire after three, four-year terms at the end of this year.
The register’s post also includes a second title, clerk of orphans’ court.
The register of wills office is responsible for handling marriage license applications as well as filings for adoptions, guardianships and estates.
The office accepts inheritance tax payments on behalf of the state Department of Revenue.
Archer is a graduate of Wheeling Park High School and West Liberty (W.Va.) University. She and her husband, Michael, are parents of a son, Aaron.
She is treasurer of the Washington County Council of Democratic Women, a member of IMPACTED, Faith United Presbyterian Church and the Washington Lions Club.
“I would like to continue the work our current register has done to preserve our older records and continue to make more of these records available to the public online,” Archer said in a news release.
The primary election is scheduled for May 21.
