Man found dead in Mon Valley house fire
MONONGAHELA – The body of a Forward Township man was discovered in his home Tuesday after it caught fire and the flames spread to a neighboring house.
The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said Robert Morgan, 75, was dead when firefighters arrived at the blaze in the Manown section of Forward.
“The building was a total loss,” said John Hess, chief of Gallatin-Sunnyside Volunteer Fire Department in Forward.
The cause and manner of Morgan’s death were pending an investigation. He was pronounced dead at 8 p.m.
Firefighters were called about 5:30 p.m. to the man’s residence at 73 Morgan Run Road, Hess said.
They discovered Morgan’s body in the living room, Hess said.
The small, two-story house was engulfed in flames that spread to a house next door, melting its vinyl siding and causing fire damage to the second floor and roof, Hess said.
He said the cause of the fire was undetermined.
Allegheny County Police were investigating the fire, something that is typical when a body is discovered, Hess said.
