DeThomas running for seat on Washington council
Joseph DeThomas, a 25-year resident of Washington, this week announced he will seek a Republican nomination for Washington city council.
DeThomas, 57, is a graduate of Canon-McMillan School District. At the former Western Area Vocational-Technical School, he trained as a welder.
In the U.S. Army, he served for three years as a combat engineer. He then received the equivalent of an associate’s degree in welding at Airco Technical Institute.
DeThomas works for Komatsu Mining, formerly Joy mining equipment manufacturing. A 28-year member of Teamsters Local No. 585, he was previously a member of the United Steel Workers and the Boilermakers Union.
Married to Angela DeThomas, he has served for nearly 30 years as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a leader with the Scout Reach units in the West End of Washington as well at the Mel Blount Youth Home.
A former PONY League baseball coach, he is a board member of the Whiskey Rebellion Festival.
“The city, businesses and residents can work together to make Washington a place that they can all be proud of, but they must work together or that cannot happen,” he said in a news release. “I feel that my lifetime in service to others will help me to lead this endeavor.”
City council candidates run at-large.
