Washington and state police responded to a home at Old York Road in North Franklin Township for the report of a hostage situation shortly after noon Thursday. But it was a false alarm.
The incident actually was reported in another part of the state, but local emergency crews were called out inadvertently. Police responded as if it were a standoff situation, with assault rifles drawn and a loudspeaker to communicate with any residents inside.
Police were soon made aware of the misunderstanding and left the scene.
